About us

The Cabinet Shop will be going out of business as of September 15th, 2011. The Cabinet Shop started in 2002 as a small custom cabinet shop that also provided kitchen and bath remodeling services. By 2004, we realized our passion was in creating craftsman quality cabinetry exclusively. We narrowed our focus and fully committed to specializing in full-service cabinetry using time-honored, old-school solid wood construction techniques with an emphasis on efficient function and using healthy and sustainable materials.

As a life-long woodworker and tinkerer, Steve Swartzlander (on the far right with Mitch left and Terry Fenner in center) spent the years leading to 2001 as a naval helicopter and airplane pilot, musician and commercial airline pilot. A post 9/11 furlough from the airlines allowed him to pursue his passion for creatng furniture-grade cabinetry full-time.

As the owner, Steve has been the head designer and team leader. After Steve returned to flying in 2010, Terry Fenner, who's been part of the team for about three years, now fulfills those daily roles of design, production management and team leader responsible for keeping all projects on time and on budget.

Green Committment

The Cabinet Shop is the exclusive cabinet maker for Solluna Builders, the 2009 Austin Home Builders Association of Greater Austin Marketing and Advertising Excellence Award winner for Custom Green Home Construction. Also, our cabinets have been featured on the TLC green building show Greenovate, just one of the four "five star" rated homes we've worked on in the last 3 years. We also work with and strongly recommend Sky Realty Austin for all of your real estate needs.

You have total control over the materials and finishes we use to achieve your goals. We use formaldehyde-free plywood and very low v.o.c., water-based, non-toxic finishes we spray at our facility, not in your home.

We also have a full selection of lumber certified by the Forestry Service Council, ensuring sustainable harvesting, available for your next project.
